Birdsland Mini-Beasts Festival
April 15, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pmFree
Ours is an annual festival for families to explore the creatures which live in Monbulk Creek, our local waterway. The festival runs from 11am until 3pm. Children get to identify waterway macro invertebrates with assistance from trained educators; participate in a nature trail where they are rewarded on completion with a badge of their own choosing and making; construct lanterns with a waterway theme for our annual winter solstice Belgrave Lantern Parade with local artists; learn all about platypus from primary school ‘Platypus Ambassadors’ from the Platypus Education Group; do nature weaving activities; make a ‘no-sew’ shopping bag from an old singlet or t-shirt to reduce plastic litter; paint a rock to hide in a local park/reserve as part of the VicRocks project and have lunch in our lovely native bushland and participate in a family bird walk along our ‘Bunjil Trail’ which overlooks the 75 hectare Council and Melbourne Water Birdsland Reserve.
A local kindergarten will supply a barbecue lunch (vegetarians catered for) as a fund-raiser.
